5th grade Make your own Instrument Project
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week your child will be starting the Make Your Own Instrument Project. In music class the students have been learning about the different families of instruments in the orchestra and had a presentation about the details of sound production and instruments. They will use their knowledge of these things as well as their creativity and artistic skills to create their own version of an instrument inspired by one of the instrument families.
In class your child was given a description of the project, a presentation guide and a project timeline.
PLEASE NOTE: Your child will be expected to assemble his/her instrument at home. Your child’s completed instrument is due in class on March 15th.
In music class they will be working on writing their own short song to play on their instrument as a part of their presentation.
Your child should use the class notes from today to assist them in creating their instrument. The most important aspect of this project is to make sure they understand the 3 parts necessary for sound production: Actuator, Vibrating piece, and Resonator. It is also important that their instrument makes 3 distinct sounds and that they are able to place it within one of the 4 families of instruments; Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion.
If you have any questions about this project please feel free to e-mail me. I look forward to seeing and hearing their musical creations!
